Promotions & Awards Policy
Promotions aboard the USS Endeavour are awarded based on merit, sustained activity, and overall contribution to the simulation rather than simply on time served. While there is no fixed timeline for advancement, players who consistently contribute quality writing, participate in missions, and remain active members of the crew will be considered for promotion as appropriate.
As a general rule, all new player characters will join the simulation at the rank of Ensign (or an equivalent warrant officer or civilian grade where appropriate) and will serve as department assistants or junior officers. Department Head positions are reserved for experienced members of the simulation and will not normally be assigned to new players upon joining.
Promotions are typically considered at the conclusion of each mission, allowing the Commanding Officer to evaluate each player's participation, character development, and contributions over the course of the mission. While exceptions may occasionally be made, mission completion remains the primary review point for promotions.
Promotion decisions are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to:
Overall activity and participation.
Quality and consistency of writing.
Contribution to the current mission and the wider simulation.
Character development and interaction with other players.
Demonstrated reliability and teamwork.
The needs and organizational structure of the ship.
For the majority of player characters, the expected career progression will culminate at the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade or Lieutenant. These ranks represent the normal career ceiling for most officers aboard the Endeavour. Advancement beyond Lieutenant is intended to be uncommon and will generally be reserved for players who have demonstrated exceptional long-term commitment, leadership, and service to the simulation, or whose character responsibilities require a higher rank.
Awards
Awards and commendations are intended to recognize exceptional participation, writing quality, teamwork, and memorable contributions to the simulation. Awards are generally presented at the conclusion of each mission, with recipients selected based on their performance and involvement during that mission.
Awards may recognize achievements such as outstanding leadership, exceptional storytelling, creative problem solving, character development, teamwork, or consistent activity. Not every player will receive an award after every mission; however, meaningful contributions will always be considered during the award review process.
Final Authority
This policy is intended as a guideline for player advancement and recognition. The Commanding Officer retains final authority over all promotions, awards, appointments, and exceptions to this policy where doing so is in the best interests of the simulation.
